Career timeline

• Won the UFC bantamweight championship from Aljamain Sterling in August 2023 and defended it once.
• Lost the title to Merab Dvalishvili at UFC 306 in September 2024 by unanimous decision, then lost the rematch at UFC 316 in June 2025 by third-round submission to a ninja choke.
• Returned to winning ways at UFC 324 on 24 January 2026, beating Song Yadong by unanimous decision (29-28 across the board) — his first win since March 2024.
• Knocked out Aiemann Zahabi in round two at UFC Freedom 250 on the South Lawn of the White House on 14 June 2026, extending his streak to two.
• Has called for a title fight with champion Petr Yan.

Fight craft

O’Malley is a long, rangy counter-striker who fights from the outside, using feints and lateral movement to draw leads and then landing straight punches down the middle. His timing and accuracy are elite at 135lb. The two Dvalishvili fights defined the problem: against a wrestler who could close distance repeatedly and never stop, his output collapsed and he had no route back. Improving that has been the explicit project of his 2026 campaign, and the Zahabi win — in which he absorbed heavy leg kicks before finishing — suggested some progress.
