Fighter Profile: Muhammad Mokaev
Muhammad Mokaev: undefeated flyweight grappler — 16-0 record, UFC release and current status.
Background
British-Dagestani flyweight based in Manchester, a former IMMAF amateur world champion who remains undefeated as a professional at 16-0. He is no longer on the UFC roster.
Career timeline
- Won IMMAF amateur world titles before turning professional and joining the UFC in 2022.
- Won every bout in the UFC, including a unanimous decision over Manel Kape in 2024.
- Was released by the UFC after that Kape win, despite being undefeated. UFC CEO Dana White publicly wished him well and pointed him toward the PFL; Mokaev has said the promotion asked him to make his wrestling-heavy style more fan-friendly.
- Has continued to compete and win outside the UFC, stopping Jorge Calvao in 42 seconds at WOW 31 in Madrid in June 2026.
- Has publicly expressed interest in signing with the PFL/MVP following their merger, and has called for a men’s flyweight division there.
Fight craft
Mokaev is a control grappler in the purest sense: fast entries, immediate transitions to the back, and long stretches of positional dominance that leave opponents almost no offensive time. It is extremely effective and, by the promotion’s own account, extremely hard to sell. His striking has developed but remains the least tested part of his game, and the release means his record has been built without recent tests against top-ten flyweights.
In the modern MMA landscape
Our wider MMA analysis describes Mokaev as “(17-0, 1 NC)” and cites a UFC flyweight control-time ranking. Neither could be corroborated, and more importantly the framing is out of date: he is 16-0 and is not a UFC fighter — he was released in 2024 and has been competing on the regional and international circuit since.
