Fighter Profile: Ciryl Gane

Background

French heavyweight out of MMA Factory in Paris, and a former professional Muay Thai fighter who was undefeated in that sport before turning to mixed martial arts. He is the UFC interim heavyweight champion for the second time in his career, with a record of 14-2 and one no contest.

Career timeline

• Won the interim UFC heavyweight title in August 2021, then lost the unification bout to Francis Ngannou in January 2022 and a title challenge against Jon Jones in March 2023.
• Challenged Tom Aspinall for the undisputed title at UFC 321 in Abu Dhabi on 25 October 2025; the bout was ruled a no contest in the first round after Gane accidentally poked Aspinall in the eye.
• Won the interim heavyweight title a second time at UFC Freedom 250 on the South Lawn of the White House on 14 June 2026, stopping Alex Pereira by TKO at 1:27 of round two — dropping Pereira with a jab and finishing on the follow-up before Herb Dean intervened.
• That win positions him for a rematch with Aspinall for the undisputed championship.

Fight craft

Gane is the most fluid mover in the division: a rangy, rhythmic kickboxer who circles constantly, changes levels with his feet rather than his hips, and picks opponents apart with calf kicks and a long, accurate jab. The Pereira finish showed a harder edge than he is usually credited with. His recurring limitation is grappling under sustained pressure — both of his defeats came against opponents who could physically impose on him, and his takedown defence has been the question mark every serious contender has tried to exploit.
